Before Ramona Falls...

...”Menomena”.

It looks like every band that integrates the music talent of Brent Knopf produces something extremely special. His music is some of the best music I have heard in 2009 - no doubts.

After enjoying Knopf’s side project Ramona Falls, I decided to explore his past and get a taste of the earlier works with his main occupation: Menomena. I found a different sound characterized by the same inescapable outcome: excellent music. Melodic but adventurous, it inherits a great deal from the ‘60, but it also offers something new through the intensive use of new technologies and a more modern sound.

The band formed back in 2000 and since then has released three full-length albums:

I Am the Fun Blame Monster! “ (2004), Under an Hour (2005), Friend and Foe (2007).

Here are some samples, hope you’ll enjoy it as much as me:

I keep wondering how is possible that Portland continues to deliver some of the best musicians around, seems like it has become the temple of indie rock as much as Seattle was it for grunge. Might be a good reason to go for a visit. For the meantime I listen to Menomena.

Would be a crime to stop here.
